The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
